In 2008 Race Equality First employed an Equalities Partnership Officer to establish and coordinate an Equality and Human Rights Network. The aim of the network is to provide a forum for representatives from all parts of the equality community in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
The core members of the network are representatives from all equality strands (age, disability, faith/belief, gender, gender identity, race and sexual orientation) recognised in the Equality Bill.
The core members are:
- Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale
- Cardiff Interfaith Forum
- Cardiff and Vale Coalition of Disabled People
- Children in Wales
- The LGBT Excellence centre
|
- Race Equality First
- Stonewall Cymru
- Transgender Wales
- Women’s Voice – Wales Women’s National Coalition
|
The network has agreed its Terms of Reference and is currently consulting on its “Protocol of Understanding”.
The aims of the network are:
- to share and conduct research
- to provide structured representation for all equalities strands within local public sector structures.
- to identify omission and overlap in areas such as research or service delivery
- to discuss and promote the single equalities and human rights agenda in light of the new Single Equalities Bill and the formation of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
- To establish a “One Stop Shop” legal discrimination casework service for Cardiff and the Vale
