Racism Awareness
Summary
This course gives participants an excellent grounding in the concepts of race and racism and is based on our thirty years of experience of working in this area. It explores the history of racism, the latest sociological and scientific theories about race, the different levels at which racism operates in our society and the ways it can manifest. It will also raise your awareness of the relevant legislation that exists in the UK to address racist discrimination and hate crime, and develop your skills to challenge racism when you encounter it in work and life.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will
- Understand the concepts of race, ethnicity and nationality and how they are used in UK equality law;
- Have an awareness of the history of racism;
- Have knowledge of the latest scientific and socological understandings of race and racism;
- Understand the different levels at which racism operates in our society and the different ways in which it can manifest;
- Have knowledge of good practice in addressing racism and the confidence to act on racism when they encounter it in their work and lives.
